Dr. Sonia Tripathi, flanked by piano department graduates at the Wintergarden concert at PPG place in December. |
Dr. Sonia Tripathi knows a bit about teaching, especially here at CYM. Gracing our halls since the Fall of 2009, students and their families (inside and outside the piano department!) have benefited from "Miss Sonia's" buoyant but exacting approach to piano study and musicianship.
We are delighted to announce Dr. Sonia's appointment as Chairperson to the newly formed Faculty Development Committee, joined by Vice President of Academic Affairs Ms. Leah Givelber, Violinist and Administrator Ms. Rochelle Agnew, and Co-founder and Curriculum Specialist Ms. Victoria McGinnis. Under Dr. Sonia's leadership, this committee will support the continued education, growth, and development of members of the CYM teaching faculty, which in turn will aid in the depth and enrichment of our students' music education.
To begin, Dr. Sonia is taking on the process of becoming a MTNA certified instructor this year. She says "I will be working on 5 "standards" of self-assessment and refinement of my teaching throughout the year. Upon fulfillment of these 5 standards, I will be granted the MTNA Professional Certification credential with designation, Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM). To maintain the NCTM credential and designation, I will need to continue to fulfill MTNA's standards of self-assessment and refinement year after year via the organization's renewal process."
We are excited to support Dr. Sonia and this committee in expanding and deepening the knowledge and practices of our learning leaders for the benefit of our whole musical community.
Bravo!
