Classical Parent Training Course- comments welcome!

All parents with beginning students in the Classical program will take part in the Parent Training Course.  The Parent Training Course is a ten week course of readings and discussions that take part in your lesson - and on our Parent’s Page and Take Note Blog!  Your teacher will give you the readings, reading assignments and questions each week.   You will also be able to access the questions via the Parent’s Page too.  CYM teachers will post thoughts on the reading on the blog from time to time, and we would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section of the blog!

To get things started let us know your thoughts on most important ideas of the Suzuki approach: talent.  Use the comments section to respond to the question:

How do you hear the phrase talent, or lack of talent, used in our schools and culture?   What does it mean to you?

A prize for the first person to comment!

  1. I have seen the word "talent" used in definitions of gifted children. Otherwise, I don't feel it's discussed often.

I think talent is sometimes confused with creativity. I believe children can be born with an element of imagination or creativity, which allows them to create art / music in different ways; this is a good thing. Different people have a different perspective on things, and maybe it's as simple as that.

Children are often thought to be born (or not born) with talent. I believe that talent is largely the result of hard work and tenacity. I also feel that creativity or perspective can supplement talent.
